Dress Code

DRESS CODE

 The following establishes the minimum acceptable standards for student dress to be interpreted and enforced by the faculty and staff of Jefferson County Middle School. Educational research reveals that students who dress for success perform better both academically and behaviorally.

BOYS

  • Shirt tails must be tucked in. This includes jerseys- exceptions are sweaters and sweatshirts
  • Pants must be worn over the hips
  • Belts must be worn with pants that have belt loops. Belts must be buckled
  • No hats, hoods, wristbands, headbands worn in the school
  • No picks, combs, or other items in hair. No metal picks allowed in school building
  • No bandanas
  • No earbuds/headphones may be worn in school building unless directed by a teacher for educational purposes
  • No grills
  • No visible undergarments
  • No sunglasses worn in the building
  • No clothing that promotes alcohol, drugs, sexual innuendo, gang activity
  • No tank tops, crop tops
  • No spandex/bike shorts/exercise pants
  • Shoes must be worn at all times
  • No slides, flip flops, shower shoes, bed room shoes
  • No gloves to be worn in the building
  • No bare visible skin, torn or ripped pants must be worn with shorts underneath

GIRLS

  • Skirts and shorts must come to the knee, or be worn with opaque leggings
  • If leggings are worn, shirt top must come to the thigh (tunic length)
  • No picks,combs, or other items in hair
  • No bandanas
  • No slides, bedroom shoes, shower shoes, flip flops
  • Clothing can not show cleavage, midriff, or backs
  • No visible undergarments
  • No sunglasses
  • No tank tops,spaghetti strap tops, crop tops, or see through blouses
  • No earbuds/headphones may be worn in school building unless directed by a teacher for educational purposes
  • No spandex/bike shorts/exercise pants
  • No clothing may be worn that promotes alcohol, tobacco,drugs, sexual innuendo, gang activity
  • Shoes must be worn at all times
  • No bare visible skin, torn or ripped pants must be worn with leggings
  • No gloves are to worn in the building
  • No blankets are to be brought to school

ALL dress code issues/violations are at the discretion of school administration

 All clothing must be worn the way the manufacturer intended

  • No inside out or backward clothing may be worn
  • All buttons, zippers, belts, and suspenders are expected to be properly fastened
  • Jackets are not to be worn to cover dress code violations
  • Metal picks are not allowed on school campus
  • Earbuds and/or headphones are not permitted to be worn while in the school.
  • Trench style coats are not permitted
  • Pajamas pants are not acceptable
  • No blankets should be brought to school

Violation of any part of the dress code will result in appropriate disciplinary action. Any attire that Administration feels disrupts the flow of education or poses safety concerns will be addressed. Any items that may distract the class/school learning environment are not to be brought on campus. School is a place to learn, any items or clothing that distract from the learning environment will be addressed.
